The Legendary Inns of Newport is a distinguished collection of luxury Inns. Set in refined and elegant historic surroundings, the unique properties and attentive service combine the warmth and intimacy found in a classic American Bed and Breakfast with the finest amenities and services of a small luxury European hotel. Our mission quite simply is to provide an exceptional guest experience.

The Legendary Inns was started in 1989 with Cliffside Inn, the former home and Victorian manor house of Newport artist Beatrice Turner. Company founder, the late Winthrop P. Baker Jr., had a vision at the time for creating a new luxury hospitality category. The vision caught on quickly with both guests and the media -- and the hospitality industry as well.

It is embodied today as it was then, by exquisite design and individual decoration throughout magnificent historic properties in special locations, that reflect the uniqueness of Newport (Cliffside sits in a quiet residential neighborhood just 100 yards from the acclaimed Cliff Walk). Legendary hallmarks include a magical mix of authenticity with today's most luxurious appointments, fine period antiques, one-of-a-kind architectural treasures, artwork, grand beds, fireplaces, exotic bathing salons and bathrooms (featuring whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, and steam baths--detailed with marble, raised wood paneling, imported tile and other special touches), fine linens, fine food, nationally-acclaimed afternoon tea, warm hospitality and personal service. Our goal then as now -- exceptional guest experiences.

Cliffside Inn rapidly became one of the top Inns in America and the most written-about Inn in New England. The flagship property remains the largest of the collection with 16 guest quarters (eight suites and eight rooms). It also serves as a "living museum" for Beatrice Turner and her artwork.

Adele Turner Inn (named for Beatrice's mother) opened in 2001 after an extensive, top-to-bottom million-dollar renovation of an existing Bed and Breakfast. Located on the first gas-lit street in America, the Inn is listed on the National Historic Register and features 27 architecturally distinctive round top windows through-out its three floors. It sits on a quiet residential street near downtown Newport in the Historic Hill section. The Inn has 13 guest chambers -- three of them suites -- and showcases one of Newport's most unique guest quarters, the Harborview Spa, which has its own private roof top deck with hot tub, and panoramic views of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay.

The most recent member of the Legendary Inns group is Abigail Stoneman Inn. Opened in 2002, it quickly became one of the most written-about small Inns in America. With only five guest quarters (three suites and two state rooms) it is considerably smaller than the other Inns -- by design.

The Abigail experience is designed to enable guests to indulge in an extraordinary level of service and luxury, in a more intimate and private setting. We believe it is an experience unmatched anywhere else in the hospitality industry.

In addition to a private tearoom for two and Rhode Island's only water pub, guests enjoy four one-of-a-kind luxury amenities: a pillow menu with 20 choices; the bath butler soap collection with 30 of the world's finest soaps, salts, skincare and spa products; a tea menu with 45 of the world's best (black, brown, green, white and herbal teas); and a water bar that features two-dozen international still and sparkling bottled waters.

The Legendary Inns of Newport is now headed by Winthrop P. Baker III, President of the group. He is the oldest son of the late founder and a former television executive and Silicon Valley entrepeneur.
