Cliffside Named Top 10 Classic New England Inn -- Travel + Leisure
"Roosted above the Atlantic Ocean overlooking Newport's Cliff Walk, this Victorian manor house and former home of painter Beatrice Turner channels the sort of joie de vivre stylings one might expect in an eccentric artist residence," reports writer Adrien Glover, in picking Cliffside as one of Travel+Leisure's 10 Special New England inns. "The main house and its adjoining cottage are a living museum, chockablock with great antiques and romantic canvases painted in the early 20th century by Turner. Rooms are plush with grand beds, fireplaces, and private 'bathing salons,' where guests will find whirlpool tubs and steam showers. Elaborate teas are a highlight here, and reason enough to book a room; the afternoon affair is a dizzying flurry of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, clotted cream, and handmade English marmalades and fruit butter curds. Beatrice would approve." Governor's Suite Recommended. |

Discerning Traveler Discovers Newport & The Legendary Inns
High end, luxury travel newsletter The Discerning Traveler checked into Newport for its entire summer 2007 edition, and found Abigail Stoneman Inn and Cliffside Inn, two of its favorite discerning destination discoveries. The Legendary Inns was the only group with multiple property picks by editors Linda and David Glickstein. They were especially taken by the Abigail's one-of-a-kind services, including the bath butler soap collection, water bar, and pillow menu. The Traveler showcased Above and Beyond and Vanity Fair suites. At Cliffside Inn, the Glickstein's featured the Garden Suite, Governor's Suite and Cliff Suite, among other room picks. They enjoyed the tantalizing story of former Cliffside owner and legendary Newport artist Beatrice Turner, whose artwork now adorns the walls of Cliffside. One other recommendation: "do not miss the elaborate tea." More reviews: Abigail, Cliffside |

THE PERFECT REMEDY FOR ROMANTICS
|
 |
"Oooh-la-la!" . . . One of New England's Best Romantic Inns
New England Travel&Life 2005 named Cliffside one of the four Most Romantic Inns in New England. "If intimate whispers between you and your loved one have been replaced by a quick "hi" after work, don't despair. Cliffside Inn is the perfect remedy. This sybaritic retreat features two rooms that romantics across the region rave about. The first is the Garden Suite, a duplex with a private garden, a double Jacuzzi the size of a small swimming pool, two fireplaces (one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom), six dimmers to control the lighting, and Peruvian limestone tiles that are heated so your tootsies won't get cold on that long walk from bath to bed. No wonder Win Baker, owner and president of the Legendary Inns of Newport, says, "I rarely see couples leave the premises. If the Garden Suite is booked, opt for the Governor's Suite. This room has an oversized Jacuzzi and a see-through fireplace, but its main attraction is the marble-enclosed Victorian birdcage shower, with more than 350 jets that soak your body from every direction. Ooo h-la-la." See all Cliffside rooms. More reviews (Top) |
